Virtual

Rump Session

Program

Call for Contributions

Do you have breaking news, progress reports, or other topics of interest to the cryptographic community? Have you broken an accepted paper at ASIACRYPT? Do you have tips for visitors to Daejeon city? Can you keep your talk short and entertaining? Even better, can you keep it very short and very entertaining? How about negligibly short and exponentially entertaining? Can you remember to wear pants during a zoom call? Then the rump session is for you!

The rump session is where you can show off your talents, present breaking news or show a humorous take on the subject. It is the place where you can make an unforgettable impression on the members of your community, or even become notorious. In rare cases you can debase yourself by presenting your rejected ASIACRYPT submission while trying to influence upcoming program committees.

Submission deadline: Monday 7 December 2020 7:00:00 UTC (extended)

Platform

The rump session will be run via Zoom webinar. All the speakers will be panelists during the rump session and are required to use their real names. Speakers will be asked to share their own screen at the time of the talk. To reduce the talk-switching time, we encourage all the speakers to locally practice screen sharing on Zoom.

Detailed Instructions

  1. The organizers will start the Zoom session 10 minutes before the rump session starts (December 8 at 9:10 UTC).
  2. All speakers are strongly encouraged to use the desktop client to connect to the session; the web client can have sound and screen sharing issues.
  3. We expect speakers to be in the Zoom session at least 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start of their contribution. We will announce the running order well in advance.
  4. We will send a private message via Zoom to signal the speaker(s) to be ready shortly before the start time of their talk. The speaker should be prepared to be share their screen and start talking after being introduced by us live on the stream.

Format

Talks should be no longer than 5 minutes in length, with at most 8 slides (including the title slide). Slides must be submitted in advance and will be put through turnitin to check for recycled jokes. Do not play copyrighted music as part of your talk under any circumstances. For political reasons there should be no jokes about North Korea, or Donald Trump, or what Donald Trump thinks about Kim Jong Un.

We require the speakers to submit at least a title slide even if you are not planning to prepare slides for the talk.
