Taiwan has not completely reopened its borders. This page is a reflection of our current (as of 28 September 2022) information about visas and is subject to change without notice. If you need a visa to travel to Asiacrypt 2022, please check this page frequently.
The Asiacrypt 2022 organization will do its best to assist everyone with entry requirements. We hope that you will be able to join us in attending Asiacrypt 2022!
Passport holders of many countries have visa-exempt entry. The Bureau of Consular Affairs maintains a list of such countries. All countries whose citizens could enter Taiwan without a visa before COVID-19 are still able to visit without a visa. Regardless of where you are coming from, you should plan to have 6 months or more validity left on your passport.
If you belong to this group then there should be no further requirements. However, we recommend to frequently check for updates on the COVID information page.
It is imperative that authors and attendees of countries that do not have visa-exempt entries into Taiwan allow sufficient time to obtain visas. You may be required to travel to the nearest place where Taiwan has a diplomatic outpost.
We will assist you in getting a visa to Taiwan. This usually means sending you an appropriate invitation letter, but would in some cases entail filing some forms on your behalf. You are urged to contact the nearest representative office of Taiwan and find out more about your situation. You may need to visit such an office in person, but most people will find that the process can be handled via mail. Some countries might also have electronic visas available.
We ask that you write to us via asiacrypt2022@iacr.org with the subject "Asiacrypt 2022 VISA". Specify your accepted paper if applicable.
If you hold a passport of the People's Republic of China but do not currently reside in mainland China, you can apply for visas after we file some information for you with the Taiwanese government. We will also issue you a needed letter of invitation.

If you hold a passport of the People's Republic of China and currently reside in mainland China, you can apply for entry to Taiwan after we file some information for you with the Taiwanese government; however, you will require a government-issued permit from the Chinese government to travel to Taiwan. This is requires some additional effort from your side. If you belong to this group, please at your earliest convenience ask your own institution about what is needed in your province for traveling to Taiwan. This usually entails an extra invitation letter plus several forms, all in Mandarin. We will file the required documents for you in Taiwan. You will need to file further documents at home. This needs to happen in parallel.
Please contact us via asiacrypt2022@iacr.org with the subject "Asiacrypt 2022 VISA".
In any case of B and C, if you have not yet done so, please write to asiacrypt2022@iacr.org with the title "Asiacrypt 2022 VISA". Specify your accepted paper if possible. In any case, specify your faculty advisor, who may be asked to verify that you intend to attend the conference in person. If you are not an accepted author, you will need to specify if you are a postdoc, a student, and/or have published at an IACR venue. If none of the previous descriptions apply, please provide the name of someone who has published at a crypto or information security conference as a reference.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience but the IACR has run into some visa fraud in the recent past; when registration is open, it is usually expected that you would register first and then ask for the invitation letter, but we will provide one early if you are an accepted author or can provide a reference. If you have exceptional circumstances, please write and ask.
