Travel & Venue Information
The conference, including the welcome reception, will be held at Pullman Melbourne on the Park. The hotel is an iconic five-star hotel in the heart of the vibrant East Melbourne Sporting & Entertainment District, and is walking distance to the Melbourne central business district.
There are several Pullman hotels in Melbourne. Don't confuse the venue with other Pullman hotels!
A limited number of discount rooms (A$255 including tax and a service charge) in the conference venue hotel will be available for booking from the middle of August. The accommodations page will have more information when it becomes available.
The affiliated workshops will be held at Monash University. More information is available on the affiliated events page.
Getting to the venue
Given its central location, the hotel is extremely well connected by public transportation. It is next to the Jolimont Station-MCG tram station (lines 48 and 75). Note that the tram station is 3 stations away from the free tram zone when coming from the central business district. You have to buy a Myki card to take the tram (tap on and off). You can buy it from the Southern Cross Station.
From the Melbourne Airport
Known locally as Tullamarine Airport, you can take the SkyBus from any terminal to Melbourne City (Southern Cross Station). There are no intermediate stops between the airport and Southern Cross Station. Once you get off the bus at the Southern Cross Station (SkyBus Arrival), walk to the tram station located at Collins Street (Southern Cross Station/Collins St). The walk takes around 6 minutes and is pictured in the first figure below. Then take the eastbound tram #48 (heading to North Balwyn), and get off at the Jolimont Station-MCG tram station. The hotel is just next to the tram station. The tram journey takes about 16 minutes (see the second figure below).
Note that there may be some faster alternative way (e.g., taking a train from Southern Cross Station to Jolimont-MCG Station). However, it may be difficult for you to spot the correct train from Southern Cross Station. If you choose to take the train, be careful to look for the one which will stop at Jolimont-MCG Station.
You can also take a taxi or Uber directly from Melbourne airport to the hotel. The journey takes 30- 45 minutes (depends on the traffic) and it may cost from $60 to $100 (depends on what type of car you want to take, from the cheapest to the most luxury one). If you have two persons travel together from the airport to the hotel, the cost for taking taxi / Uber maybe the same or similar as travelling by SkyBus + Tram.
